Fatal Attraction is being re-imagined as a series for Paramount+.
Showrunner Alexandra Cunningham planned the series as a juicy, twisty show that “distracts us from getting out of our headspace.”
The original film starred Glenn Close and Michael Douglas, about a lonely, isolated woman.
Cunningham says the series explores many different subjects and modernizes on the television screen.
“In our version, it represents all the characters’ points of view rather than just one character of Dan,” said Cunningham.
The panelist attendees included Joshua Jackson, Lizzy Caplan, Amanda Peet, Alyssa Jirrels, showrunner/executive producer Alexandra Cunningham, director/executive producer Silver Tree, and executive producer Kevin J. Hynes.
“It is really important for me to come up with these backstories,” said actress Alyssa Jirrels playing an older version of Ellen Gallagher. She continues to explain how her character changes allow exploring the realm of psychology.

For Lizzy Caplan, she discussed her preparation to follow in the footsteps of Glenn Close, who played a crazed character. In the new series, she wanted to let audiences feel more sympathetic to the character and question the motive of other characters in this world.
“I find it difficult to watch the film as originally intended. The 80s audience finds this as a black-and-white story of the villain versus the hero. The lens on how we view has altered since the 80s. We are poised to ask more questions. In this case, it’s not a two-hour film; we can see things through her eyes. We ask the questions that are not impossible to show in a film,” explained actress Lizzy Caplan, who portrays the new version of Alex.
“Dan’s mental health is also questionable,” added actor Joshua Jackson. “Alex has issues. Dan has issues. They meet together to create this toxic soup. And therefore, there are a lot of victims.”
Fatal Attraction premieres on the Paramount+ streaming service on April 30 with its first two episodes.
