While I haven’t seen Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite myself just yet (I live out in the middle of nowhere where we have one theater with six screens, so I do what I can), I love his body of work and have yet to find anyone who’s seen it tell me they didn’t like it. From what I could tell, it’s a crowd-pleasing, engaging movie from start to finish, and it makes sense that it’s a Palme d’Or winner and Oscar hopeful.
But awards season may not be the end of the road for this story. Bong Joon Ho is actually teaming up with The Big Short’s and Succession’s Adam McKay to bring the story to HBO in a limited series form.

While this isn’t a sure thing just yet, HBO just came out on top of a bidding war that included huge streamer Netflix, and talks are currently underway. All in all, this seems to be quite the hot commodity in Hollywood. At this stage, it is unclear if this will be a remake or follow-up, but this WILL be an English-language series, which is no surprise, given Bong’s experience in English with projects like Snowpiercer and Okja.
Parasite has made $130 million worldwide, and I’m sure once Oscar season comes around it’ll make a decent amount more.
