Patrick Wilson Joined Aquaman Without Reading A Script

Who needs a script? Sometimes a franchise is either so good, or simply so well paying, that an actor would jump at the chance to be involved, sans script. Other times, you simply trust those you have worked with before, as is the case with Patrick Wilson and Aquaman.

Wilson plays Orm aka Ocean Master, half brother to Arthur Curry / Aquaman (Jason Momoa). THR reports that yes, Wilson signed onto the DCEU, not exactly known for good movies, without seeing a script, because he believes in Harvey Dent director James Wan:

“I signed on before there was a script, before there was anything.”

Wilson did indeed sign onto the film in December 2016, after he was told by Wan about Aquaman, while be directed by Wan on Conjuring 2:

“My agents were like, ‘Do you know what the role is?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, it’s this guy.’ I show them pictures. [They asked], ‘Is it a big part?’ I’m like, ‘Guys, he’s not going to waste my time. I know that.'”

The relationship between actor and director can run deep, with many directors and actors being closely associated over the years. It speaks highly of Wan’s process that Wilson, who is no dumby, would sign onto a positive-review challenged franchise without even checking if the script was worthwhile.

Wilson is always a great addition to any cast, whether it be Night Owl in Watchman or even Agent Lynch in The A-Team. Though I don’t care for the trailer, I’d see nearly any action film with Wilson, especially if he’s not the good guy, even when he looks freakish, as he does in Aquaman.

Do you think actors should read the script before they sign onto something to make sure it is right for them? Or is trusting a director good enough? Let us know in the comment section below.
