Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins was both the hero DC needed and deserved. She into what was then (and might be again) a struggling shared universe. Her vision for the character along with her behind-the-camera talents were the driving force behind the film, along with the Gal Gadot’s wonderful performance.
Jenkins was a one time set to direct Thor: The Dark World (dodged a bullet there didn’t she? Though we may think of it differently had she took the job). As it turns out, that wasn’t the only pre-Wonder Woman superhero film offer. Jenkins was also contacted to direct DC’s big team-up film, Justice League. Jenkins spoke the French magazine Premiere, below you can find out why Jenkins wasn’t interested in the film.
“I love comics, but I’ve come to superheroes through films. There is in me this desire to emulate compared to the movies I saw as a child. A certain spirit that reigned in those times. Is that relevant when I shoot? I don’t know. The point is, unlike other directors, I don’t really care about shared universes, continuity, and that kind of detail. I’ve been contacted to make a Justice League movie in the past, and it doesn’t connect to me. Too many characters.”

It’s difficult enough to bring quality, fan-pleasing adaptation of one superhero, let alone manage an entire team of them. DC fans were given a rare given, what is more, or less a do-over for the Justice League film that many fans were not satisfied with. Perhaps down the road Jenkins will be given another opportunity to bring a superhero team to the screen. Personally, I’d be intereted to see that.
