Paul Bettany Explains How The Vision Death Scene In Infinity War Was Improvised

Paul Bettany has explained how the Vision death scene in Avengers: Infinity War was improvised by Elizabeth Olsen and himself.

In a recent interview Paul Bettany has explained how the Vision death scene in Avengers: Infinity War was improvised by Elizabeth Olsen and himself. The scene in question was one of most dramatic in the movie as after smashing through all those attempting to save Vision Thanos finally meets a Vision killed by Wanda herself to stop Thanos getting the Soul Stone. However all that drama is simply reversed by Thanos who then rips the Infinity Stone from the head of a resurrected Vision.

It was fairly brutal. Although planned that way Bettany explained how he and Olsen were asked to improvise the scene when he spoke to Collider. The scene wasn’t working initially.

“It was hilarious. None of us knew who was gonna die until like the day before or something like that,” he explained.

“They showed us a sort of pre-visualization of that and everybody was like, well, I guess I gotta take the kids out of private school.”

“The Russo Brothers came up to us [Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen] and said, ‘Hey, listen, can you just improvise this scene?’ And I go, ‘What? Improvise being a robot getting killed’” I’ve got no frame of reference!”

“And Lizzie was just laughing at it, and we’re so relaxed with each other that…I don’t know how it would’ve worked other than that, because we both really trust each other and, somehow, we got to something that worked.”

Bettany went on to talk about how working with Liz Olsen was such a highlight for him. In fact it was the main reason he wanted to return as Vision in WandaVision.

“I think it was fantastic fun for Lizzie and I,” he says of WandaVision. “We both love working together, you know. She’s a great, great scene partner, work partner. She’s fastidious, and she is always prepared and bold. I really love working with her, we really enjoyed the large canvas.”

“It’s always been fun because we very much have our own lane versus in the movies. And it was just so much fun to be able to really spread out and play and there were so many different dynamic styles.”

Bettany says he will return and that is expected to be in the rumored Vision Quest series. However this was all before the big Marvel shake up, so who knows now?
