Paul McCartney Joins ‘PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES’

Following the 2011 release of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, Disney has been slowly and quietly putting together the latest in the PIRATES franchise, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES. Filming for the sequel has reportedly finished, though according to Deadline, directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg have “have gone back to add an extra big set-piece scene.” In addition, that set piece has reportedly been built around musical artist Paul McCartney.

That’s right. It looks like Paul McCartney has joined the film PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, and will therefore be a part of the series canon. This, of course, wouldn’t be the first time the series has added a rock star to their cast list. From the beginning, actor Johnny Depp was very vocal about the fact that he based his portrayal of Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards’ mannerisms, and the Rolling Stones member even went on to portray Jack’s father in the third film, AT WORLD’S END

Deadline went on to state that there is no indication as to what role McCartney would be playing, but that what they shot was an extra scene and not a reshoot. As such, it’s likely that McCartney’s appearance will be brief.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES marks the fifth film in the franchise, and upon its release, it will be the first film released since the fourth film took in $1 billion-plus back in 2011. While that film did indeed kill it at the box office, one definitely got the sense that all desire for more PIRATES films had all but dried up. As such, it seems like Disney has taken their time in putting this film together, and even though the film has wrapped shooting, it won’t be released for well over another year.

DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES will not only mark the return of Johnny Depp as the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow, but will also see Orlando Bloom returning as Will Turner–his first appearance since the conclusion of AT WORLD’S END.
