Cyberchase on PBS KIDS reached a major milestone with twenty years for this children’s programming. Now in its thirteenth season, producer Sandra Sheppard was amazed at how this animated series managed to influence a couple of generations of children with math.

Here is a description of the animated series:

After being warped into Cyberspace from a library computer, Matt leads friends Jackie and Inez as Cybersquad. With live hosts Bianca and Harry, the team must protect Motherboard from the evil Hacker who wants to rule Cyberspace. Using gadgets and following clues, the team solves math mysteries and any other problem that comes their way.

Christopher Lloyd and Gilbert Gottfried lead the voice cast as Hacker and Digit respectively.

With each episode, the animated show teaches kids using math, problem-solving and environmental awareness to settle conflicts against an antagonist intending to conquer cyberspace.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta talked with producer, director, and creator Sandra Sheppard on Cyberchase since its inception. We talked about the origination of the series, the evolution in the past 20 years and 13 seasons, and the success of the animated series.

Sandra Sheppard is a producer in the documentary and animation categories. She started with Cyberchase as shorts that later became into the full animated series. In 2003, she executive produced the historical documentary series Freedom: A History of US. Also, she was an executive producer on multiple animated series, including Girlstuff/Boystuff, Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps, and Oh Noah!

Cyberchase is currently streaming and being showcased on PBS KIDS.
