Peacock Looking To Reboot The Office

In the age of streaming, networks are looking across their wide swaths of intellectual property, hoping to find the ones that may woo increasingly-wary consumers over to their side of the table. With so many options on their way in the coming six months or so, potential customers are becoming incredibly demanding of what each service offers them in terms of exclusives.

With that in mind, you have services like Disney+ already garnering a lot of positive buzz, with fans excited for continuations of their favorite properties like Star Wars and Marvel. But what about the others like NBCUniversal, whose content isn’t quite as eye-catching.

As was already reported, their service Peacock will feature reboots of shows like Battlestar Galactica and Saved by the Bell, but there is one other important show they are hoping to revive.

“It is my hope and goal that we do an Office reboot,” NBCU’s Bonnie Hammer, Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer and Digital Enterprises, told Deadline. “The Office comes back to us in January 2021. It is my hope that we can figure what that great reboot would be. We are having conversations.”

But what would a rebooted Office entail? That remains to be seen. Presumably, we wouldn’t see a return of characters like Michael Scott, and with John Krasinski’s career blowing up on the big and small screen alike (as both a director and actor), I’m not sure even he’d return. But perhaps the others would still be around, along with some new faces?

Either way, as cynical as it is, it’s a smart idea, as The Office is one of those highly bingeable comfort shows that has served Netflix well. There’s no reason adding more content wouldn’t help out Peacock.
