I know many individuals stopped watching Gotham at some point, but I tell you what, last season, and the current season, are definitely worth a watch if you enjoy Batman’s rogues’ gallery. The writers finally found some direction that worked, and it was to focus on the development of the villains over Gordon and Bruce. Today the series finale airs, which I am somewhat sad about, but also feel it is at a point for a solid ending.
With that said, what does that leave next? As previously reported, Pennyworth will be arriving in July. I’ll be honest, when I first heard about the prequel-type story about the butler I thought “Are you serious?” Out of all the characters associated with Batman, they want to focus on Alfred? It didn’t really seem like the type of idea that would take-off and be successful. Yes, Alfred’s backstory has been somewhat explored in comics, and briefly established on screen, but has rarely been given any depth.
After some plot reveals and the initial teaser trailer I have found myself…somewhat interested. The second teaser just hit, which can be found above, and sheds some more light on the wet-behind-the-ears Alfred Pennyworth. Below is a description of the new series:
“Former British SAS soldier Alfred Pennyworth forms a security company and goes to work with Bruce Wayne’s billionaire father, Thomas.”
