Like many fans out there, I feel like I’ve had my fill of all the comic book series out there. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my movies, but as the market has exploded, I’ve found myself having a hard time keeping up with the various shows spread across countless different networks. And this goes for shows set in the Batman universe as well. How many times can we go back in time and tell a different story pre-Batman? Well, at least one more!

Epix has been putting together a brand-new series following Alfred Pennyworth in Epix’s Pennyworth. No, it won’t follow an old Alfred cleaning up Gotham with a broom (don’t let Teen Titans Go! to the Movies fool you), but instead follow him in his younger years — long before Bruce was even a twinkle in Thomas Wayne’s eye. We’ve seen a couple of trailers in the past, and now, Epix has released a whole new trailer.

The trailer shows off a period spy story, and while I’ve been incredibly skeptical of this working, most of what they have here actually works for me. I like the look of it, I like that it doesn’t feel like a comic book series at all…but I’m not sure if I’m digging the girlfriend getting kidnapped thing. With the story looking like it could do well with the whole espionage angle, the ol’ “save the girl” angle feels a bit tired.

Though, if you were a fan of hearing Alfred with a cockney accent, this new take delivers.
