We are less than two weeks away from the highly anticipated Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds on The CW that will span three nights starting with a The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl. One of this things we are most excited to see in this crossover is the television debut of Ruby Rose’s Batwoman. With that also comes the first time we are going to visit Gotham City in the Arrowverse, which also means the debut of characters and locations familiar to Batman.
One of those characters that will be making her Arrowverse debut is Nora Fries, the wife of the classic Batman villain Victor Fries aka Mr. Freeze. She will be played by Cassandra Jean Amell, who is the wife of Stephen Amell who plays Oliver Queen aka the Green Arrow on Arrow. Yesterday The CW released a number of photos from the Elseworlds crossover online, one of them giving us our first look at Nora Fries with an item that we all may recognize. Check it out below!
An interesting fact about Nora Fries is that her character did not make her first appearance in comic books. She was originally created for the Batman: The Animated Series in a critically acclaimed episode, which also happens to be one of my favorites, titled Heart of Ice. She was terminally ill, so her husband froze her while he looked for a cure. But his project was shut down by the CEO of the company he worked for, driving Fries mad and leaving him thirsty for revenge. Her creation gave Mr. Freeze a lot more depth and his new backstory gave him a more relatable and humanizing backstory that has been adapted in comics.
This is not the first time we have seen Nora Fries as a live action character as she was featured in the Batman & Robin film in 1997. As well as in FOX’s Gotham series where she was played by Krsten Hager. It will be interesting to see what role she is going to be play in the crossover this time around as we see her with her husband’s freeze gun. Which for me raises the question, where is Victor Fries?
Also this really has me rooting for a Batwoman series on The CW as it would mean that we would have the opportunity to feature a number of Gotham based characters, locations and items. We already have Central City, Star City and National City. The Arrowverse is clearly missing Gotham City.
What do you think of Nora Fries’ first look? Let us know in the comment section below!
