Playing with Power: The Nintendo Story

Nintendo has been a fixture for decades.

Many gaming systems have come and go. Gaming systems like Commodore, Atari, Intellivision, and Sega were a few notable companies. Nintendo managed to build its video game empire to become a fixture in the industry today—even still competing against the two video game console giants of Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox.

With its long company history and nostalgic fans, a five-part documentary Playing With Power: The Nintendo Story tells its full history of the Japanese company from its beginnings to the console juggernaut that it became today.

Here’s the full synopsis:

Playing With Power: The Nintendo Story peels back the curtain on the famously secretive Japanese company that would eventually take the global videogame industry by storm. Discover the humble beginnings of a gaming business that began many decades before the invention of television, and ride along the bumpy road of hits, misses, and wild ideas that turned Nintendo from a local playing card maker into a worldwide household name.

Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) narrated the documentary series. The story interviews included Nintendo personnel, industry experts, celebrities, including Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Alison Haislip (Attack of the Show!), Ron Judy (Nintendo of America co-founder), Nolan Bushnell (Atari co-founder), Tom Kalinskeand (former Sega CEO), Phil Spencer (head of Xbox), and more.
