I am just young enough… old enough… let’s go with young enough, to have enjoyed the Pokemon franchise. I enjoyed the anime enough, thoroughly enjoyed the Trading Card Game, and really loved the Gameboy games. I used to play the TCG at Books-A-Million on Saturdays as part of the Pokemon League, and I was pretty good at it. What I wouldn’t do to still have all of my first edition cards…
For those of you that still play, or at least collect, there are some special cards coming out soon and they’re inspired by the upcoming Detective Pikachu film. Check out a few below:
Additional cards will include Bulbasaur, Ludicolo, Jigglypuff, Psyduck, Mewtwo, Morelull, Charmander, Charizard, Arcanine, Magikarp, Greninja, Snubbull, Lickitung, Ditto, and Slaking. Click HERE for a complete gallery or go to the Pokemon Company’s website HERE.

I am really excited about the Detective Pikachu movie! When it was first announced I felt it was a huge mistake. I really thought it was a mistake to not tell the Ash Ketchum story or at least create a new trainer to follow. However, after seeing that first trailer I’ve been sold. I really enjoy the look of the world and the idea that it is lived in. I appreciate the look of the Pokemon themselves and how the artists manage to make these creatures feel more real, but not be too realistic and therefore terrifying. Can you imagine a movie with these from artist R.J. Palmer?
As for the TCG, I am waiting on my son to get a little older to see if he’s interested in playing. I recently began playing Magic: The Gathering after a 15 year hiatus and would love to play a TCG with my offspring. The new cards will be in special collections and go on sale April 5th.
