Bond 25 Will Have 007 Return To Italy

Once again, 007 will return to the boot.

Variety is reporting that Bond 25 will feature a prominent part of the film in the ancient town of Matera in southern Italy. It is expected that the city will be used for the well-known prologue action sequence that has been a staple lately in the Bond films. According to Variety:

“Preparations to accommodate an estimated 500 production people for the shoot, which is expected to take place in late July, are already underway. Matera’s prehistoric whitewashed caves also provided the backdrops for the Jerusalem set of Mel Gibson’s The Passion Of The Christ.”

This is not the first time Italy has been featured in the missions of James Bond. 2015’s Spectre featured an intense high-speed chase along the river Tiber in Rome. In 2008’s Quantum Of Solace, the film opens to a car chase along Lake Garda and then moved on to Siena.

Aside from Passion Of The Christ, the town of Matera has been featured in the MGM remake of Ben Hur and in Wonder Woman. The European Union has designated the town as one of the year’s Capitals of Culture and it has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Daniel Craig will return as Agent 007 in this next installment, due to be released April 8, 2020.
