Let it be acknowledged that not all bits of fan speculation are completely off the mark. Yesterday, I reported on some speculation surrounding a potential upcoming Pokémon Direct, which would presumably cover first details regarding the next generation of Pokémon games, which are expected to hit the Nintendo Switch later this year. Of course, like all speculation, it was something to be presumed as such, as there was no hard evidence to back it up — and the road is littered with the bodies of incorrect Nintendo Direct speculation.
But not today! Today we can rejoice in the fact that speculation has, for once, let us down the correct road. Nintendo of America took to social media today to state that there would be a new Pokémon Direct tomorrow morning at 6 AM PT/ 9 AM ET. The Direct will be seven minutes in length — so definitely on the shorter side — but we’re sure the Pokémon-y goodness will more than make up for that.

Of course, in terms of content, we’re all expecting the reveal of this year’s core RPG experience on the Switch. Last year’s Pokémon: Let’s Go certainly was a lot of fun to play, but the more hardcore gamers have been waiting for the BIG new entry in the franchise that will push it more towards the future. Given the tease of all the regions on Twitter (which is what led to the Direct speculation to begin with), many are hoping for an open world-type game that features regions from all the games.
As someone who would consider myself a fairweather fan who only jumps on every few generations (starting with the first), I hope this really does change things up enough so that it doesn’t feel as repetitive to me as it has in previous games. While The RPG mechanics were great when they came out, over time, it’s lost its luster for me, and each successive game has felt like too much of the same. I’m ready for them to break the mold as they did with the Zelda franchise in Breath of the Wild.
But what do you want from the game? Let us know down below!
