Power Rangers Getting Rebooted By End of the F***ing World Creator

It’s Morphin time! Again! Fans of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series may remember the reboot of the franchise that hit back in 2017. I honestly thought it was a solid little movie. It wasn’t perfect, but it was entertaining and I thought the cast they brought in to actually play the rangers were likable in their own distinct ways. But sadly, it bombed badly, at the box office for Lionsgate, taking in only $142 million off its $100 million budget.

Now, it sounds like Paramount Pictures has the property and is ready to jump into the next reboot from The End of the F***ing World creator Jonathan Entwistle, who is currently in talks. Given the dark and potty-mouthed nature of that Netflix original series, you wouldn’t really expect him to take on this kid-friendly film, especially one that reportedly returns the franchise back to its roots.

I’ll admit, I don’t really know what that means, as it wasn’t like the recent reboot was incredibly dark. Sure, it was a bit more brooding than the original, but given how hard to watch the original series is nowadays I can understand the why. Perhaps it’s worth looking at the more recent TV series to see what’s working on the small screen. I’ll admit I’m not exactly caught up on the goings-on of this franchise nowadays, but if it’s still going on, there’s clearly something there that still works.

This report comes roughly a year after Hasbro bought the Power Rangers brand from creator Haim Saban, and it will be produced via Allspark Pictures, which is Hasbro’s film division.
