POWER RANGERS: It’s Morphin’ Time! Posters Show Our Heroes Morphing!

I went into the whole idea of a Power Rangers movie with some hard skepticism. It’s a film based on one of the campiest, cheesiest properties known to mankind — a property that doesn’t exactly hold up when actually looked at with a critical eye. This doesn’t make it the easiest thing to bring to the big screen. Heck, they tried doing that back in the 1990s, when the franchise was in its heyday, and despite the good ol’ college try they gave the film, it didn’t really do a whole lot of business.

So could they possibly succeed in this new Power Rangers adaptation? That certainly remains to be seen, but from the trailers Lionsgate has released thus far, it’s possible. Rather than try to deviate too far from the source material, or to stick to close to it, they seem to have found a solid middle ground. That middle ground they’ve settled on feels a whole lot like a cross between the Josh Trank movie Chronicle, and the original series — which is a combo we didn’t realize would work (let’s face it, we still don’t know if it will).

Saban’s Power Rangers feels like a movie that is wonderfully character-focused and imbued with a great sense of wonder that any teen would have in discovering their own superpowers. Of course, one of the things we’re most looking forward to is when Jason says those three magical words: “It’s morphin’ time!” We’ve seen glimpses of the end result, and it seems all kinds of badass.

In the latest piece of marketing, Lionsgate has a series of one-sheets that show each of the Rangers mid-morph. Check them out below!

Now we’ll just have to wait and see if the morphing actually works in the context of the movie itself.

The synopsis for Power Rangers is below:

“Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.”

Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017!
