Predator’s Honest Trailer: Austrian Vs. Predator

It’s almost here, everyone! Shane Black’s The Predator may have entered theaters mired in controversy, but it’s also a film fans have been looking forward to for some time. The franchise has been put on ice for so long that many (including me — who actually liked 2010’s Predators) may think nothing can be done to legitimately revive it, but why the hell not give it a shot?

Whether or not Shane Black’s latest opus will live up to the hype (and more importantly, live up in terms of the box-office) is still up in the air, but why not take a look at the original film to remember what made it so damn endearing? The folks over at Screen Junkies have done just that with the latest Honest Trailer.

In it, there is plenty of fun ribbing at its expense, as you’d expect, but more than a lot of other older films, they also celebrate how well it’s aged, and I have to agree. With its use of old-school special effects, it really manages to stand up to today’s high standards of filmmaking. It also does a fantastic job of building tension, and as the trailer notes, as a result, we really don’t mind the ridiculous amount of time we spend looking at trees, because we’re on the edge of our seats, waiting for the monster to pop out.

And while we’re on this, can we just celebrate the scene below from the film?

Too often do we see people in movies shooting at things, only for their buddies to come up from behind them, asking “What? What are you doing? Why are we shooting?” But in this scene? Nah, everyone joins up and starts shooting alongside him without asking any damn questions. Keep on shooting, everyone! And the rocket launchers? Shoot off those bad boys, too! Forget whether or not you’re hitting anything.

God, I miss ’80s movies.
