Prime Video’s The Baxters | Roma Downey and Karen Kingsbury on Bringing Faith and Family to Series

The best-selling novel series Baxter Family from Karen Kingsbury is being brought to life in The Baxters for Prime Video.

With millions of copies sold, book fans will be delighted with the family drama being adapted to their faith-based journey through real-life struggles.

The series stars Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel, Son of God) as Elizabeth Baxter and Ted McGinley (Married with Children) as John Baxter. The rest of the cast includes Ali Cobrin (American Reunion, Neighbors) as Kari Baxter Jacobs, Masey McLain (I’m Not Ashamed, If You’re Gone) as Ashley Baxter, Josh Plasse (iCarly) as Luke Baxter, Cassidy Gifford (God’s Not Dead, The Gallows) as Reagan Decker, Reilly Anspaugh (Geoffrey the Dumbass, Off Days) as Erin Baxter, Emily Peterson (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Sirens) as Brook Baxter, and Brandon Hirsch (Black Lightning, Atlanta) as Tim Jacobs.

The guest stars include Kathie Lee Gifford, Jake Allyn, Damien Leake, and Orel De La Mota.

Based on the worldwide best-selling book series by Karen Kingsbury, The Baxters is a riveting family drama that follows Elizabeth and John Baxter and their five adult children. Season One of The Baxters centers on Elizabeth and John’s daughter, Kari, who learns the shocking truth that her professor husband, Tim, has been secretly having an affair with one of his college students. As her relationship is tested, Kari must seek comfort in her faith and family to discover if love is truly a choice and if her marriage can be redeemed. In this deeply moving faith-based journey, The Baxters must come together as a family to work through the challenges of life.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with author Karen Kingsbury and actress Roma Downey on the series and stories about family and faith.

Karen Kingsbury is a Christian novelist who has written or co-written almost 100 novels and short stories, with over 13 million copies in print. She began her career as a sports writer for the Los Angeles Times and later wrote for the Los Angeles Daily News. In 1991, she wrote a murder mystery book titled “Missy’s Murder.” Many of her novels were adapted into movies by The Hallmark Channel, including The Bridge, A Time To Dance, and Maggie’s Christmas Miracle.

Roma Downey is an actress, producer, and author. In the hit CBS television series Touched by an Angel, she played Monica, the angel. She also played the lead role in the NBC mini-series A Woman Named Jackie as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. With her husband, Mark Burnett, she produced the Emmy-nominated miniseries The Bible for the History Channel and appeared as Mary, the mother of Jesus. Also, she executive produced the Ben-Hur remake that starred Jack Huston, Toby Kebbell, and Morgan Freeman. Her other producing credits included Son of God, Little Boy, Woodlawn, The Bible Continues, and On a Wing and a Prayer.

The Baxters will be available on March 28 on Prime Video.
