QUEENS – ABC’s “Queens” stars Naturi Naughton as Jill aka Da Thrill, Eve as Brianna aka Professor Sex, Brandy as Naomi aka Xplicit Lyrics, and Nadine Velazquez as Valeria aka Butter Pecan. (ABC/Gavin Bond)
Last week was the premiere of Queens on ABC. This is the new musical drama television series that stars Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez, and Brandy. In this series, we follow four women in their 40s who come back together to try and recapture the magic and regain their swagger that they had in the 90s. When their music group broke up in 1999, each of their lives went down different paths. But their dissatisfaction in their lives and a new opportunity have brought them back together.
The music for Queens was put together by Swizz Beatz, who is the executive music producer for all of the original music. The official label partner for the series is Def Jam Records. With the group having had their claim to fame in the 90s, there is going to be a lot of nostalgic sounds as we enjoy this series.
With the release of the series Queens, LRM Online’s Emmanuel Gomez spoke with the vocal producer for the series, Matthew Head. He is an Emmy, NAACP Image, and Peabody Award-winning and Grammy-nominated music producer and composer. Working on a variety of series and so much more, he was the right person for the job of recording the talented voices of the stars of Queens.
During our, interview Head tells us about his experience in working with the stars of Queens. Including a valuable lesson that he learned from them. He also explains to us his process for creating sounds for a series. It’s a great conversation that you can check out down below!
