Though the films never crossed the $100 million mark domestically, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army are fan favorites. Hellboy lovers have been teased with news of Hellboy 3 for years, only to be disappointed time and time again. Months ago, writer/director Guillermo del Toro finally confirmed that Hellboy 3 would never happen, much to everyone’s horror. We’ll never see Ron Perlman don the sawed-off horns again.
So, I’ve got good news and bad news. The bad news is that now it is even more official that there will be no Hellboy 3 starring Perlman. The good news is there will be more Hellboy… in the form of a reboot. And it will be R-rated! How’s that? Any better?
Creator Mike Mignola took to Facebook today to announce the Hellboy reboot, as well as the actor choosen to go red:
I’m sure most fans are upset at the idea of a reboot, but I really like the casting! Ron Perlman was so perfect for the role that he can never be topped, but David Harbour is a strong choice for a replacement. And if Deadpool and Logan have proven anything, R-ratings are very welcome and have been beneficial for the comic book movie genre. So, while I’m sure most of us would prefer a trilogy finale with del Toro at the helm, I think this will do.
Are you excited about an R-rated Hellboy reboot, keeping in mind that even if it doesn’t happen you won’t be getting Hellboy 3? What do you think about Stranger Thing‘s Harbour in the title role? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
