The underdog story reigns supreme when it comes down to any racing sports story. And, it’s especially remarkable when it actually happened in real life.

Based on true events, Race for Glory: Audi vs Lancia follows the events of two racing teams competing for the crown in a close-knit battle. It was also the last time a rear-wheel drive car won the world racing championship.

The film stars Riccardo Scamarcio and Daniel Brühl as the two team bosses going head-to-head in terms of racing strategies. It also stars Katie Clarkson-Hill (Hanna, The Innocents) and Volker Bruch (Babylon Berlin, Generation War).

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with actor Riccardo Scamarcio about the true story, meeting Cesare Fiorio in real life, and his thoughts on racing cars on the production set.

Riccardo Scamarcio trained at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in rome. His big break came with the 2004 film Tre metri sopra il Cielo, which earned him the Golden Globe for best new actor. He starred in many Italian films over the next years, including Mio Fratello è figlio unico, Manuale d’amore – Capitolo successive, Go Go Tales, and Ho voglia di te. In 2013, he starred in the film Effie opposite to Emma Thompson and Un ragazzo d’oro with Sharon Stone. He landed the role of Santino D’Antonio in John Wick: Chapter 2 in 2017. Most recently, he was seen in A Haunting in Venice as Vitale Portfoglio.

Race for Glory: Audi vs Lancia is in theaters today.
