Rich Davis, the creative genius behind the widely acclaimed “Cult of Dracula,” has earned a reputation for reimagining iconic figures in the horror genre. Davis shared his creative approach, stating, “I like to subvert expectations and challenge everything readers ‘know’ about these characters and their worlds. I want to tell the stories that their authors intended but do so in ways that no one expects.” His works have received praise for their unique perspectives and unexpected viewpoints while maintaining reverence for the source material. “Prometheus In Chains” adheres firmly to these principles and has been met with widespread acclaim from critics and readers alike.
The involvement of airbrush artist Jay Ferguson adds an extra layer of allure to the second printing. While most versions depict Victor driven by arrogance to conquer death by stealing fire from the gods, Davis chose to explore Victor’s grief as his primary motivation. This humanizes the character, making him more relatable and intriguing. Davis acknowledged that the writing process was challenging, as it compelled him to confront his own demons, but also found it cathartic. The story reflects his personal struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), stemming from the tragic passing of his wife Amber Davis in 2021 due to a botched transplant surgery.
The emotional depth and relevance of the comic have inspired Davis to use his platform to raise awareness about PTSD. He hopes that his depiction of a character with PTSD, penned by a writer coping with his grief, will resonate with readers and encourage open conversations about mental health. Scott Chitwood expressed his commitment to delivering a high-quality product, stating, “It means that we sold out the initial print run and still couldn’t meet demand for the book. We can’t fumble this one.”
