Red Band Trailer: Blumhouse’s UPGRADE Is A Balls-To-The-Wall Violent Sci-Fi Thriller

When you think of Blumhouse, chances are you think of taut horror-thrillers, where low-budget, high concept scripts are held up in the highest regard. It’s how films like Get Out, Happy Death Day, and Split managed to flourish, and while their latest film, UPGRADE, is certainly evidence of that mindset, they take that idea, and dial it up to 11.

The film is a violent sci-fi thriller that seems part John Wick, part Robocop. In the new red band trailer from Blumhouse Productions, we see the life of a man go south when his wife is murdered. He’s left without the use of his legs and the insatiable desire for revenge.

He’s confronted by a very mysterious (and very blond) man who offers him the ability to walk using a chip called STEM. However, its abilities don’t end there. Not only can it make him walk, but it can also take control of his body, and pretty much use him like a puppet, as showcased in a pretty amazing-looking fight scene, where STEM takes full control of the situation.

So I guess, think Iron Man without the suit? With the way the action is choreographed and the whole thing is filmed, I have to say, I became an instant believer. It’s almost like Crank, except good.
