Is there life after a porn career? Not so much as it seems in the comedy Red Rocket.

Here’s the brief synopsis of the movie:

The audacious new film from writer-director Sean Baker (The Florida Project, Tangerine), starring Simon Rex in a magnetic, live-wire performance, Red Rocket is a darkly funny and human portrait of a uniquely American hustler and a hometown that barely tolerates him.

The film also stars Suzanna Son (Suzanna: Birthday Boy), Bree Elrod (Shutter Island), Brenda Deiss, Ethan Darbone, Brittney Rodriguez, and Judy Hill. Sean Baker directed the movie from the script written by Baker and Chris Bergoch.

Sean Baker is a directing gem after The Florida Project and Tangerine. His visually appeasing shots along with conflicted characters make him one of the best independent directors out there. Also, it is amazing his usage of non-actors or first-time actors to tell compelling stories in his films. Although the trailer makes Red Rocket appears to be a comedy with funnyman Simon Rex (Scary Movie franchise), there will be observable emotional feelings for this down-on-his-luck ex-porn star. It’ll be safe to guess that you’ll laugh and cry at the same time in this film.

A24 has Red Rocket set for a December 3 release date.
