Relax, Transformers: The Last Knight Isn’t Over 3 Hours Long

Michael Bay’s Transformers movies are known to be a lot of things. They’re loud, vibrant, sometimes exciting, yet always over-bloated. Each film has clocked in at over 2 hours and 20 minutes, and the most recent entry, Transformers: Age of Extinction, had a bladder-busting runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes — which is far longer than any Transformers has a right to be. And yet there were rumors that the next film, Transformers: The Last Knight would exceed this runtime by a substantial margin.

If you do quick Google search for “Transformers 5 runtime,” you’re currently met with an astounding number: 3 hours and 2 minutes. That’s right, this film was rumored to have a runtime that exceeds three hours. However, the strange thing about this is that the number has no actual source. So any folks who doubted this news were right to do so, as this is a bogus number. Director Michael Bay took to Twitter himself to clear up the whole ordeal.

Sadly, Bay didn’t give us an actual number, but given the epic scale of this film, it seems like we can expect the film to at least end up over two hours in length. Our guess would be somewhere in the realm of 2 hours and 10 minutes. This would make it long enough to be substantial, but not so long that it becomes an overwhelming mess.

It seems that studios are wising up to the fact that longer does not necessarily mean better, and that certainly is the case with the Transformers movies, which only seem to get longer and worse as time goes on. Perhaps this reverse in runtime will help in making a more cohesive and rewarding narrative.
