Release Dates For The Next Three Star Wars Movies Announced By Disney

Benioff and Weiss detail their cancelled Star Wars trilogy, plus some Barside Buzz that there's still no script for the Rey sequel.

Disney changed up their slate yesterday and we’ll cover all the delays in another article. However, we now have release dates for the next three Star Wars movies to discuss, so let’s get on with that. Whilst there were slots for Star Wars films in Disney’s previous slate, we all knew those were not happening. Therefore, it was merely a matter of time before we got new dates. I won’t really call these delayed, as right now not a single Star Wars movie is under cameras.

The first new Star Wars movie will release on May 22, 2026. The second drops within the same year on December 18, 2026. Finally we have a movie scheduled for December 17, 2027.

Now, if you are wondering what these movies will actually be, then we cannot say for certain? There are four Star Wars movies in active development, with one more still not completely shelved. The movie I feel is farthest ahead is the one being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy that will feature the return of Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order. That movie is still not written as far as we know. Stephen Knight took over scripting duties, but there is a WGA strike on, so that’s probably delayed this one slightly.

We have Taika Waititi currently writing a Star Wars movie which some trades had said he hopes to film next year. However, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Waititi himself have both indicated the script is not yet finished.

Dave Filoni is making a MandoVerse movie, rumored to be called Heir to the Empire at one point, tough other leakers have refuted that claim. However we have no idea what the script status of that movie is yet and we still have Ahsoka to check out this August.

James Mangold is also working on a Star Wars movie set very far back during the Dawn of the Jedi era. Again, far as we know there is no completed script yet, so we can’t say how far along that one is either. The final contender is the one which was at one point front of the queue. Rogue Squadron was previously announced as coming from director Patty Jenkins. However, that movie just straight up got shelved for a bit, though Kennedy says they are still exploring it. Kennedy also indicated they are unsure if it will be a movie or TV series the last time she spoke on it.

So which will be next? My money would have to go on the Rey sequel from Obaid-Chinoy. However after that, I could not possibly make any more predictions. At this point I’m not even convinced these dates will remain locked till release. I guess we will find out in time, along with maybe finding out which movie is coming when?

What do you think of the release dates for the next three Star Wars movies announced by Disney? Which one will happen when, and which isn’t yet even dated? As always, lets us know what you think below if possible.
