Rey Sequel From Obaid-Chinoy Remains On Hold At Lucasfilm | Barside Buzz

In some unsurprising Barside Buzz, it’s been claimed the Rey Sequel from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still on hold at Lucasfilm. I say this is an unsurprising rumor, because this is kinda the status quo of the situation anyway. The writing for the project has passed into new hands. Until Lucasfilm gets a script they want Obaid-Chinoy to shoot, they cannot move forward.

That script has been through many hands already. [Lucasfilm, send me the drafts and I’ll have a go for free?] and last we heard George Nolfi had taken over from Stephen Knight, but there’s been no recent updates. Not officially, nor from any scoopers, but here’s what Daniel RPK says he’s heard on his Patreon.

“The Rey movie is on hold once again, as both the Shawn Levy and James Mangold Star Wars films are moving forward first. The project is not canceled — just temporarily on hold.”

Hmm, just how much better in shape is the script for James Mangold’s movie I wonder? I’ve heard there was an internal battle between which movie to write first. His Star Wars movie, or his Swamp Thing for DCU. Haven’t heard much from either, but I guess he could have decided Star Wars was first and ushed ahead. Who knows?

The fact Star Wars: Starfighter is officially filming this year, means it’s pretty obviously the next film, (duh). However, I wouldn’t out money on Mangold’s movie being next after that. Until the studio space is booked the cast are cast, never trust a Star Wars film will happen.

What do you think of this Barside Buzz that the Rey Sequel from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still on hold? Meh, like me, or surprised it’s not moved along?
