When it was revealed that Rian Johnson, the writer and director of the then-yet-to-be-released Star Wars: The Last Jedi, would be taking the lead in a new Star Wars trilogies, many fans saw this as a good sign. After all, he had just finished working with Lucasfilm, so it clearly meant they had a good relationship, and that much was true.
Here we are, a couple of years following that announcement, and the state of Star Wars has changed drastically. We had one polarizing film in The Last Jedi and one flop in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Lucasfilm has since had to rethink their strategy and approach to the franchise.

As it stands, it sounds like that has extended to Johnson’s trilogy. Speaking with Standard, Johnson shared that he may even have time to do another movie before he even starts work on his new Star Wars trilogy.
“The truth is they’re still figuring out their schedule, their game plan, so if it’s possible for me to squeeze in another film before or while working on that, I will.”
Those of you hoping to see some confirmation that his trilogy was no longer in the works will sadly find no solace here. As previously indicated, Johnson is planning full well on doing his movies, and to be honest, given his own batch of characters, I am confident he’ll do a bang-up job.
But what do I know? I’m a Last Jedi lover.
