Trailer: New Doc Series From Executive Producer Selena Gomez Titled Living Undocumented

One of the hot topics in the United States is immigration policy. There are many people who have lived her for years, sometimes even since they were infants that unfortunately do not have legal status here and live day to day in fear of being deported back to their country of origin. These are people who are just as “American” as anyone else in the country having grown up here and completed their studies here, but because of where they were born, they do not have the same rights as as everyone else. At the end of the day most of these people are just looking for a better life that we are fortunate enough to have here in the States despite current politics. Recently we had the announcement of the modern day take of Freeform’s Party of Five, which will focus on the Acosta siblings. The premise is that they are left to survive on their own after both their mother and father are deported.

If you want a closer look at the current situation some of these families, you will have an opportunity via the documentary series Living Undocumented from executive producer Selena Gomez, which will debut on Netflix on October 2nd of this year. This documentary follows eight different families that allowed camera crews to follow them as they faced potential deportation. The journeys of these families hopes to illuminate and humanize the complex U.S. immigration system. We will be able to see the struggles that these people must endure in their quest to pursue the American dream. You can check out the trailer above!

Living Undocumented is co-directed by Aaron Saidman and Anna Chai. Along with Selena Gomez as executive producer is Emmy-winning Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman via Industrial Media’s The Intellectual Property Corporation banner and Mandy Teefey, Anna Chai and Sean O’Grady.

Via Netflix, this is what Gomez commented about why she chose to work on this project:
“I chose to produce this series, Living Undocumented, because over the past few years, the word immigrant has seemingly become a negative word. My hope is that the series can shed light on what it’s like to live in this country as an undocumented immigrant firsthand, from the courageous people who have chosen to share their stories.”

Saidman also commented about the direction they took on making this documentary:
“Living Undocumented is designed to illuminate one of the most important issues of our time. But rather than discussing this issue with only statistics and policy debates, we wanted viewers to hear directly from the immigrants themselves, in their own words, with all the power and emotion that these stories reflect.”

This is a topic close to me as many of my family came to this country in the 70’s and 80’s illegally, but since it was a different day and age were able to gain their citizenship some time later. Still I have many other family members and friends that live with the fear of being deported and the frustration of a broken system. For me the stories that will be seen here are nothing new. But my hope is that in seeing this, viewers can get a different perspective and see that in most cases these are just people like you and me that are just trying to live a comfortable life.
