Oh, boy. Here we go. It’s been just over 24 hours since we’ve found out that Robert Pattinson was a frontrunner to play Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming standalone film, and we already have fans going completely nuts over the prospect. And we’re talking about a role that hasn’t even gone to Pattinson yet. In case you haven’t heard, Nicholas Hoult is another actor whose name is being thrown around.
Regardless, it doesn’t stop ignorant fans from signing up for the cause of….voicing one’s concerns for Pattinson taking on the role. As is the M.O. in 2019, angry fans have taken to Change.org to create a petition against the casting of Pattinson. more specifically, one from someone named John Roden has the following mission statement.
“Don’t make the Batfleck mistake again. Don’t do it. For the love of all that is holy, stop trashing the DC Universe.”
Sounds legit, eloquent, logical, and not stupid at all. I won’t even mention my personal opinion that “Batfleck” wasn’t a mistake in the slightest.
It’s almost as if the events from the mid-2000s when Heath Ledger was first announced as the Joker in The Dark Knight are repeating themselves. Now, I’m not saying Pattinson is guaranteed to be an amazing pick, but I do think fans need to just learn to A) suck it up when things are done they don’t agree with and B) recognize they aren’t always the ones most equipped to actually make the right decisions in the business.
