It seems that The Rings of Power Season 2 to begin filming this October. We also have some locations revealed for the shoot, most of which are in the U.K. as one might expect. However there is also some location footing to happen again in New Zealand, which is more of a surprise. I’m not sure where the exact source of this information comes from. However, it has been shared by the folks at FoF who had a great hit rate of news leading up to Season 1. Given the look, this feels like something from the likes of Production Weekly, but that’s not where this came from. Check it out.

As you can see Edinburgh, Scotland and the U.K. in general are listed. We’ve known for some time that production would move to the U.K. for season 2 of the show, whereas Season 1 was shot almost all in New Zealand. As a Scot myself, I’ll always back my home Nation for having visuals up to the same standard as NZ. However I am probably slightly biased. One thing we can perhaps say for sure, is that in Tolkien’s mind, the landscape of the U.K. is definitely what he thought of when writing. The professor made this point very clear in some of his famous letter.

However given we also have Auckland, New Zealand, one wonders if there are some scenery shots used in Season 1 that they need to match for Season 2. Although we cannot say for certain, I would guess they won’t ship any of the cast over to New Zealand. I think the cast who are by the majority British or American, would be far more comfortable working in the U.K. within closer reach of their families and friends.

So far I’ve heard no news about possible locations for the shoot. However I might get some word on that in October from local news outlets I can share, we’ll see?

I should consider signing up for an extra’s agency just so I can try and get on The Rings of Power. Or The Acolyte, a new Star Wars show also filming in the U.K. and specifically rumored for Scotland. However I’m frankly probably far too busy to have any time for such an endeavor, such is life. Talking about Star Wars… If anyone is worried about the change of visuals from New Zealand, just take a look at Andor. That was almost all shot in and around the U.K., and it looks great.
