Rob Liefeld Thinks Deadpool 2 Will Kick Han Solo’s Ass In Theaters

While the first Deadpool movie didn’t really have a lot of competition going for it, the upcoming Deadpool 2 will be a different story. While Deadpool 2 is pretty much launching all by its lonesome on June 1, 2018, there is a little movie called Solo: A Star Wars Story hitting the week prior on May 25.

We can’t help but wonder how much Deadpool 2 will affect Solo’s second week, or vice versa. Well, if there’s one person who seems overtly confident it’s Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld. During this past weekend’s LA Comic Con, Liefeld expressed this confidence, saying:

Deapool comes out June 1st, are you aware of this? Deadpool 2. I am betraying myself doing this. My nine-year-old self is going to come back in time and smack my ass, because when I was nine – and sorry, I’m old, I’m fifty – I saw Star Wars in the theater like this [makes shocked and awe face], because if your were that age like me, there was nothing like George Lucas’ Star Wars movie.”

“But Disney is delusional and is opening Han Solo a week before Deadpool! And they are going to get their asses kicked! Seven days later; mark my word, skeptical man! [points to audience member] Mark my words: Han Solo, get the hell out of the summer, ’cause seven days later, an army of mercenaries is coming to send the Falcon into hyperspace! Disney I apologize in advanced, but I’m telling the truth: Deadpool is going to kick your ass.”

Shots fired, Lucasfilm! But does he have a point? It’s hard to tell at this point. Solo: A Star Wars Story is a film that’s been mired in controversy. Its directors were unexpectedly fired with only a few weeks left in principal photography, so there’s no way of knowing if new director Ron Howard will be able to salvage what’s left.

Whether or not Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story will ultimately depend on how good these movies actually are. We’ll have to wait and see.
