Robert Downey Jr. To Play Tony Stark One Last Time In Black Widow

You’d be forgiven for thinking that after Avengers: Endgame and then Spider-Man: Far From Home, that this would be the last time we see Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark for quite some time, maybe outside of a little voice work. Endgame saw the character make the ultimate sacrifice to destroy Thanos and his army and thereby save everyone from the mad Titan. Then in Far From Home we dealt with the legacy of Tony Stark and the passing of the torch onto Spider-Man, a character no longer in the MCU weirdly.

However, a report from Deadline at the weekend about the Saturn Awards saw the outlet casually mention that Tony Stark would make his final appearance in next year’s Black Widow. Black Widow for those that don’t know is set between Civil War and Infinity War, and as such both Natasha and Tony are very much alive. They are, however, at that point, on different sides of the fence, with Romanoff in team Cap from the end of Civil War right through into the beginning of Infinity War.

I have to say I am not sure this is the best idea, and reading comments from fans online, it seems I am not alone. Do we really need to see Tony again, considering what has all just happened? That seems like a bum note to play in what currently seems like a movie scheduled two years too late. Would it not make more sense for this to be a final cameo appearance from Chris Evans as Cap before the events of Infinity War?

It just feels like we have that big emotional send off in Endgame, then a movie dealing with the fallout and Peter Parker taking up the mantle of Tony, only to see him reappear in what you’d imagine will be a small role in Black Widow. I guess we just have to trust Marvel Studios as they rarely get it wrong. Though, I do feel like Black Widow should have happened before Infinity War, maybe with Captain Marvel‘s origin story coming after Endgame where Black Widow is now sitting if I was being super critical. Saying that, I have not seen Black Widow yet (duh) and maybe I will change my mind when I see what the movie actually deals with?

What do you think of Tony Stark showing up one last time in Black Widow, do you agree with me about switching Black Widow and Captain Marvel? Share your thoughts in the usual spot below.
