Rocketman: Taron Egerton’s Resemblance To Elton John Is Uncanny In First Image

Well here’s a match that was made in heaven in terms of casting. Taron Egerton’s career has already intersected with pop superstar Elton John’s twice already. It first intersected in the 2016 film Sing, where Egerton played the role of a gorilla who loved to sing. It figures the song he’d sing at the movie’s climax was none other than “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John.

They intersected yet again in last year’s underwhelming action-spy sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, where John played a caricature of himself who was kidnapped by the movie’s villain. Now, Egerton is set to play the legend in a new biopic entitled Rocketman from Paramount Pictures. The studio has shared with us the first image of Egerton, which you can check out below.

I have to say, I’m impressed. While I knew Egerton had the voice to pull off the role, I always thought he was a bit too good-looking to play Elton John (no offense to him…not that he cares what I think). John may be iconic, but he isn’t the most traditional-looking fella, and I worried that the film would work too hard to make him appeal to female audiences.

Luckily, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Even if I didn’t know who this was supposed to be a photo of, I would have easily picked Elton John. Between his hair, glasses, and short (nonexistent?) shorts, I think they nailed the overall look.

But what do you think? Let us know down below!
