Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad And WB Games’ Batman: Gotham Knights In Development?

Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad and WB Games’ Batman: are we soon due to get a glimpse of these potential DC games? Read on to find out more …

It’s been five years since Rocksteady released the critically acclaimed final installment of their Batman Arkham videogame series in the form of Batman: Arkham Knight. Since then, fans have long speculated what the developer’s next project might be. Rumors have abounded of Rocksteady expanding on their Arkham universe by way of a Superman or Justice League game. Regardless, Rocksteady has stayed silent on whatever they’ve been working on.

Likewise, WB Games have also been secretive in relation to their next project. The only thing they’ve shared has been a few teasers hinting at a Batman game featuring the Court of Owls. Fans of the comics will know, the Court of Owls is a secret society that has operated in Gotham for centuries.

Fans have been waiting impatiently to get a glimpse of either of these two projects. However, they have been repeatedly disappointed with the lack of any updates at several gaming industry events. Now, some recent news suggests a reveal might be on its way to the upcoming DC FanDome event.

An eagle-eyed internet user recently discovered some newly registered domain names belonging to a WB-related company. The domain names include: “SuicideSquadGame.com”, “SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague.com”, and “GothamKnightsGame.com”.

The news has convinced many that Gotham Knights is likely the title of WB Games Montréal’s new Batman game. It also seems probable that the Suicide Squad domains mean that the project Rocksteady has kept under wraps for so long is in fact a Suicide Squad game.

Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips has since corroborated this information. He commented that “Kill The Justice League” is a likely final title for Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad game, and that it is also a good indication of what we can expect the plot to focus on. What’s more, Phillips backs up the idea that we can expect to see reveals of both projects during the DC FanDome event on August 22.

I must say, I’m surprised and a little disappointed to hear Rocksteady might be developing a Suicide Squad game. A Superman or Justice League game would have been the logical (and my preferred) choice if Rocksteady were seeking to make their next blockbuster game. Then again, given their track record with the Arkham series, I’m more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt if this story turns out to be true.

On the other hand, I’m very hopeful that we are in fact in for a Batman game reveal. While I know a lot of people had their issues with the game, I really enjoyed Batman: Arkham Origins, so I’d be very happy to get another installment from WB Games Montréal. What’s more, the title Gotham Knights is also the name of a comic book series that focused on the adventures of the Bat Family and not just the Dark Knight. Does this mean we’ll get a game that lets us play as either Batman or some of his sidekicks? I’m looking forward to finding out.
