Tomorrow, August 19, marks the centennial celebration of the birth of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.
With the creation of the popular television show back in 1966, it spawned numerous off-shoots in television, film, and books. Also, it marked a cultural revolution that changed the way we look at society, politics, and the treatment of others.
His legacy is engrained into the world of science fiction that expands our imaginations of what is beyond the stars and traveling at warp speed.
His credits included being the creator of Star Trek: The Original Series and its sequel spin-off series of Star Trek: The Animated Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation. He produced numerous Star Trek feature films.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with television producer Rod Roddenberry, who is the son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and Majel Barrett.
We talked about the centennial celebration for his father, the current paths of Star Trek, his father’s legacy, and his best-kept item from Star Trek. And for fun, we talked briefly about our love for Star Wars and how these two universes can co-exist.
Rod Roddenberry is an executive producer on Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and the upcoming series of Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He is the chief executive officer of Roddenberry Entertainment, which builds upon his father’s work into numerous multimedia projects, including comics, television, and film projects.
The centennial celebration of Gene Roddenberry encompasses a number of activations and initiatives that we call #thinkTrek. It’ll include 100 days of Gene Roddenberry quotes, daily videos from actors and notable fans, and a daily podcast titled Quoting Gene Roddenberry.
