According to The Ronin, Rogue Squadron production designer will be be Aline Bonetto. Bonetto previously worked as production designer with director Patty Jenkins on both Wonder Woman and WW84. So far I have to say I’m not convinced by team Jenkins as I thought Wonder Woman was just ok, and WW84 was…. not.
However being that this will be the first Star Wars film to release since The Rise of Skywalker, I hope it doesn’t suck. Rogue Squadron is a great opportunity for a Stars Wars movie different to what we have seen before. It’s also intriguing that wording used by Jenkins makes fans think this movie will be set post-Skywalker in the Galaxy’s timeline.
Sadly, for a few of us here at LRM, Rogue Squadron won’t be based on the books or games of the same name. Instead this will be a story with a brand new cast of character. The one thing we should be 100% sure of, is that the main cast will be fighter pilots. I certainly hope Jenkins is up to the task, because I’m expecting great space battles for my money if I go see a Rogue Squadron movie.
Whilst it makes perfect sense for Bonetto to join Rogue Squadron, I am wondering who will write the movie? Jenkins I am sure is heavily involved, but she isn’t really an established writer. With some hints that were made I was sure it was going to be Gary Whitta (Rogue One). However, so far on the writing front we’ve heard nada.

So far Lucasfilm has not reached out to Rogue Squadron creator Michael A. Stackpole. Stackpole is a friend of LRM and super fan Kyle Malone has spoken to him many times since Rogue Squadron was announced. Jenkins had some nice words online for Stackpole. However, as yet, his expertise has not been sought out.
One of the things Stackpole did really well was write space combat. Stackpole’s explanations were canon to many older Star Wars fans like Kyle and I. Those books were the sequels for many years until de-canonized by Disney. I just think Stackpole would be great from a technical overview at least to have around the movie. I guess time will tell and we will see what we see when Rogue Squadron hits theatres?
