Rogue Squadron Writer Is Matthew Robinson – Meh!

Director Patty Jenkins says she's still writing Rogue Squadron and she owes Disney a submitted script.

According to a report from THR, the Rogue Squadron writer is Matthew Robinson. Robinson’s biggest writing gig so far was likely Love and Monsters, and honestly, looking at his filmography I am not seeing anything to get excited about right now.

We don’t know this for a fact, but we guess that the overall story is from Patty Jenkins. It is assumed Robinson has been brought in to shape that story into a script. I’m just not so sure one of the writers of Dora and the Lost City of Gold is what this movie needs. For me, of all the upcoming Star Wars movies, Rogue Squadron would be the one I wish to be grittiest, and made for adults. Though to be fair Robinson is also writing Live Die Repeat and Repeat currently, the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow.

Hey, for all I know Robinson could be the perfect choice for this movie. After all, when the Russo’s and their writing partners first started with Marvel I was not sure about them either. Hopefully therefore all my concerns are unfounded. However, I can’t help but be a bit worried by Rogue Squadron. This feels like a movie that should appeal to the old fans like me who grew up with just the OT and the EU books. After all, the Rogue Squadron books were some of the best Star Wars EU books around.

Yet, having looked at Patty Jenkins previous movies, and Robinson’s, I haven’t exactly been a fan. I’m genuinely worried that if Rogue Squadron doesn’t knock it out the park, then Lucasfilm have made another tragic mistake with their handling of the Star Wars franchise.

What do you think? Am I being unfair? Have you seen something in the work of Jenkins and Robinson that makes you feel they are the right people for Rogue Squadron? Any other thoughts now that we know Rogue Squadron writer is Matthew Robinson? Leave them in the usual spot below.
