Ronda Rousey Will Voice Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat will release its eleventh entry into its no iconic franchise in April of this year. Former MMA fighter and current WWE star Ronda Rousey is set to provide the voice for the first lady of Mortal Kombat, Sonya Blade.

This was revealed during this morning’s live streaming event. You can check out what Rousey had to say about her turn to video games. You can check out what Rousey had to say about her new job in the video game industry below.

“Sonya Blade was the first kick ass girl I saw come onto the scene. I admittedly kind of emulated her in my own way. And now I get to try and be her.”

Sonya was indeed a badass, hunting down the mercenary known as Kano. Rousey also recalled her first victory playing the game.

“The first time I can remember playing “Mortal Kombat,” my mom was a college professor and one of her students actually let me play. I was a complete button masher but I was Raiden and I beat him as Raiden and it was like the first time I had beat an adult at anything.”

I am not a big fan of MMA, I will watch the really big overhyped fights, but I am happy to see Rousey come aboard the franchise, I think she will fit in well and make the game better. I would actually like to see more celebrities come in to voice the game’s classic characters.

The original fighting game took arcade world by storm in the early 90s and is the reason that video games have a rating system today. Having digitized sprites as opposed to Street Fighter II‘s cartoony graphics was one aspect that helped set the game apart from others at the time. Most of all it was the fatalities that drew the kids, the ability to decapitate, burn, or remove your opponent’s heart after defeating them. Putting that extra umph, on your victory, and bragging rights.
