Sadly, no Clerks III is happening. A couple years back, it seemed like it was well on the way. And with it, we’d see the return of Dante, Randal, and Becky. But, as Smith told us way back when, it couldn’t be done without the return of Jeff Anderson, the man who plays Randal in the movies. While he managed to return in Clerks II, it didn’t sound like the experience worked enough for him to want to come back a third time.

Luckily, View Askewniverse fans will get to see plenty of big characters return in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. In a recent production diary, Smith highlighted how many characters would be coming back from these movies, and in a recent Instagram post, he confirmed one other big actor’s return — Rosario Dawson, who played Becky in Clerks II. Here’s what he had to say in the post.

“There are very few people I love in this business as much as @rosariodawson! So when Ro-Dawg Rebooted with us, I was reminded how she can take boring old Kevin Smith lines and make magic! Getting the always-in-demand Dawson into @jayandsilentbob Reboot required Ro to go above and beyond and take a few flights to get #neworleans. It would’ve been more than understandable if she couldn’t make it. But my friend made moves and interrupted her busy life and work schedule to come play with us in the #viewaskewniverse once again. So, when all said and done, it looks like there will only be two major holes in the cast list from the View Askewniverse. The first is Holden, played by Ben Affleck. While the actress seemed to express a willingness to return to the Chasing Amy character, it doesn’t sound like Smith had asked him. The second, of course, is the aforementioned Randal, played by Jeff Anderson.
