A few days ago, it was reported that Sylvester Stallone was seen heading to the set of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
While it seemed clear that Stallone would be playing a role of some sort, it wasn’t clear what the role would be. Would be a cameo, or something even bigger?
A recent report from On Location Vacations hints that his appearance may skew on the cameo side of things. According to one of the outlet’s sources, “His costume looks a lot like Judge Dredd.â€
Considering Judge Dredd isn’t even a Marvel character, I think we can rule out the possibility that he actually is Dredd. However, given the playful tone in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, along with James Gunn’s sense of humor, I can definitely see Stallone playing a character very much inspired by Dredd. While they can’t call him Dredd, I can see them calling him a very similar name in an attempt to give an homage to the character Stallone played twenty-some-odd years ago.
If this is indeed the case, it’s probably safe to say that Stallone’s role will be tiny–perhaps even restricted to a single line of dialogue. It would be meant as more of an Easter egg for fans, than an actual plot thing.
Another tidbit the outlet had in addition to this Stallone rumor is that last week, they shot a scene involving Howard the Duck, a character who appeared briefly in the first GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY film.
