RUMOR: Lady Gaga Could Play Ursula In The Live-Action Little Mermaid Film

The Little Mermaid looks to be gaining some momentum over at Disney. There have been some rumors surrounding Zendaya potentially taking on the role of Ariel in the live-action remake, but of course, that’s not the only key role they need to fill. Unless you have a villain, the struggle these characters face basically mean nothing.

In the case of The Little Mermaid, we have Ursula, the sea witch who robs Ariel of her voice in the first act of the film. But who could play such a role? The folks over at DisInsider are reporting that Lady Gaga, who is currently in theaters for A Star is Born, is high on Disney’s list to take on the sea witch. It’s worth noting that the outlet is speculating that the role is Ursula and concedes that they have been unable to confirm this.

Sadly, there is very little we know about this movie apart from the obvious — that it’s based on the 1989 classic and that it will feature music from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

But what do you think of this possibility? Given what we know about Ursula, do you think Lady Gaga will be a good fit? If nothing else, she certainly has the voice to carry a few tunes during the runtime, and given her penchant for the theatrical, it wouldn’t be out of place for her to feature a ridiculous and flamboyant costume. I personally think it’d be an inspired choice.
