It’s really only a matter of time now until Marvel Studios announces something that utilizes one of the characters previously owned by Fox. We know they are all coming at some point, though it does seem as if X-Men will be a little later to the party than the Fantastic Four may be. When it comes to Fantastic Four there are some phenomenal villains that could be set up as the big bad of the next MCU Saga, the likes of Galactus, Annihilus, and Doctor Doom spring to mind instantly.
We have already heard rumor that Marvel may be developing a solo Doctor Doom Disney + show before Fantastic Four and now we have a new rumored character in development. The GWW reports that sources have informed them Marvel Studios are developing a solo Silver Surfer movie, and I’m sure that will prick the ears of many Marvel comic book fans. Silver Surfer was always a big favorite amongst Marvel fans, and yet the only time we have seen Norrin Radd on film so far was the disappointing Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Fox movie.
There is no word on when this may be penciled in for or who may be developing the movie, but Adam Mackay cited Silver Surfer as his dream movie back before the Disney purchase of Fox. Here is the quote from an interview with THR.
“Silver Surfer is the one I want to do, man. I would do anything to do Silver Surfer because, visually, you could do what the Wachowskis did with Speed Racer with the Silver Surfer,” McKay said. “At the same time, there’s a great emotional story in there, man, where Norrin Radd [Silver Surfer] has to make the choice to save his planet. That would be the one, but I think Fox owns the rights … .”
Yup, I am totally on board with a Silver Surfer origin movie that also introduces Galactus as a being in the MCU. Sure, I want to see the Fantastic Four done right, but if Silver Surfer and perhaps even Doom are already established on their own, it means a Fantastic Four movie can concentrate on really developing those four characters as a family and a team. It may, however, be some time before we find out how accurate this information is with Marvel having already revealed their plans for the next two years, and Black Panther 2 being announced already for 2022.
