For some reason or another, these rumors regarding Ben Affleck wanting to depart from the DC Extended Universe will not stop. After over a year of what seems like a very public falling out between Affleck and the DC Extended Universe, we have another new potential development for fans to chew on.
Now, there’s a rumor that The Batman director Matt Reeves has an actor in mind to take his place should Affleck decide to pull out altogether. YouTuber John Campea recently went on his own show to throw out another rumor regarding a potential recast for the character.
“I’m hesitant to say anything, but I talked to a Hollywood producer yesterday who told me who Matt Reeves wants as Batman. And, I’ll be honest with you, the name they gave me caught me a little bit by surprise. I called somebody else later in the day, saying, ‘Hey, I heard this, is there any validity to this?’ And they said, ‘Well, Matt does want him. But, that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. There’s been no movement or anything like that. It doesn’t mean anything’s going to happen.’”
Again, as Campea stated, this doesn’t mean this WILL happen, but it does mean that — assuming this is true — Reeves has a “contingency plan,” if you will, in case Affleck decides he no longer wants to don the cape and cowl.
Ben Affleck has never made much of an effort to hide his exhaustion with the DCEU. Most recently, he expressed his desire to segue out of the franchise in a “cool” way, but with Justice League still not getting the positive reaction everyone had hoped for, we wouldn’t be surprised if he stepped down sooner rather than later.
What do you think of this rumor? Do you think Affleck will be stepping down as Batman? Who would you like to see take on the role of the Caped Crusader after him if it does happen? Let us know down below!
