The upcoming VenomVerse’s placement in respect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been pretty confusing from the get-go. Naturally, we’d expect he’d be a part of it, and even Amy Pascal stated as much, only to backpedal later, pretty much indicating, “yeah, it’s there…but you’ll never see it in respect to everything else.”

Well, things may be getting a little less confusing, if we’re to believe this rumor. In today’s episode of Collider Movie Talk, panelist Jon Schnepp revealed the following rumor.

“Spider-Man is going to be in Venom. For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man—and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man—is going to be in Venom.”

If true, then it turns out Pascal’s initial statements about there being a possibility of Spidey popping up weren’t an example of her speaking out of turn. This is both good and bad. The good is that it makes things less confusing. The bad is that fans will now be pestering Marvel Studios to allow Venom to interact with Spidey in his own film.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Now is this credible? Obviously, this should be taken with a grain of salt, but given other rumors in the past of Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Scorpion playing a key role in Silver & Black, it sounds like this universe will be intertwining quite a bit, which is pretty cool. Plus, Schnepp isn’t one to spurt out rumors — he’s rarely even one to try and break scoops. With that in mind, we’d think that he’s at least confident in this one, otherwise he wouldn’t bother saying it.

You really took this story from a guy on Collider that didn’t share any source for where he got this information….How exactly does this make things less confusing?? You guys are just adding to the confusion….. (PS I’ve been saying the entire time that Spidey would cameo in Venom)

Scoopers never reveal their sources. It’s a surefire way to get that person fired. It only makes things less confusing if it’s true. If it’s true, we know where Venom stands in reference to the MCU.

    God I hope not…
We don’t need these universes colliding and Sony muddying up Marvel’s track record. But hey, maybe Venom will be great?? But I fear for the continuity, and for Sony trying to leverage Marvel.

I wonder how Tom’s contract is laid out? I think it was for CW and 4 additional Marvel movies, right? So Spider-Man 1 & 2, and Avengers 3 & 4. I don’t think he’s contractually obligated to appear in Venom. There will be a lot to weigh in that decision, but if I were him I wouldn’t hitch my raft to Sony’s sinking ship.

I guess it really depends on how close they stick to Venom’s origin. My guess is we’ll get an opening montage explaining how the Klyntar symbiote was part of Spidey and passed to Eddie. For that, they could get by with a few shots of Spidey and wouldn’t technically even have to have Tom Holland do anything.

Honestly, I was never a big Venom fan until Agent Venom, so I’m not excited about the film. He never really felt like a complete character to me, but maybe they’ll figure it out.

I think they’re being mindful about expectations, but that it all “could” be in the MCU if the Sony stuff doesn’t go too far off the rails. They just want to give themselves an out, since they can’t exert the same control over Sony productions as they can Marvel productions.

  • FeixPunk

Oh God, that’s scary. They could ruin this great Spider-Man.

  • Laurence

He won’t be ‘in’ the movie. It will be either a tv report of Spiderman and Eddie Brock watching or Eddie Brock writing up something about Spiderman. He won’t have a ‘role’ per say.

  • 2 Left Thumbs

Is there anything clear on whether or not Scorpion in Silver & Black would be played by Michael Mando?

  • Victor Roa

didn’t andrew garfield try to contact Marvel during Avengers production and then got scolded by Sony for doing that in the email leaks?
