No doubt about it, Joker has a potential to be a game-changer for Warner Bros. After strapping itself to the DCEU to its detriment, they seem to have found their own route — pretty much doing whatever they hell they want with the characters they own without being attached to an existing universe. It worked out for that movie, which is en route to being the highest-grossing R-rated film of all-time, and now it looks like they are leaning into that success for future projects.

According to We Got This Covered’s sources — which they claim were the same for a few other scoops (including Viola Davis’ The Suicide Squad) that proved correct in the past — Warner bros. is now looking into more “standalone, dark and mature DC movies.”

One such project supposedly being tossed around is a Batman Beyond movie with (wait for it…oh, wait, it’s in the title) Michael Keaton as an older Bruce Wayne.

Fans will recognize the concept, as it’s based on the beloved cartoon series that followed a newer take on the Caped Crusader, which included a young high-schooler named Terry McGinnis taking on the mantle, except in a younger, hipper way, yo. Bruce Wayne acted as his mentor and “man-in-the-chair” role.

For years, many fans have been eager to see Keaton return in this capacity, so is this new move from Warner Bros. a sign that they’re taking it seriously?

Well, keep in mind, it’s still early talks, so anything can change, and as with all rumors, be sure to take it with a grain of salt. Regardless, it is an exciting thought to entertain, The fact that we’re even having this conversation is kind of amazing. That being said, I heard some rumors in the past (like pre-Batman v Superman) that a Batman Beyond-type movie is what they hoped to do after Affleck hung up his cowl. Obviously, things have changed since then.

What do you think of this idea? Would you like to see a Batman Beyond movie? Let us know down below!
