We’re sharing a rumored synopsis today for the Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill and if true, it shows some differences from the original. As for how we get a rumored synopsis in the first place I have some theories. This information came from Daniel RPK on his Patreon service.
My suspicion is that there was supposed to be some press coverage taking place when the movie went into production. Originally, that should have been around right now. However, you probably already know star Henry Cavill was injured in practice. Therefore, I’m betting all the trades currently also have this ‘official synopsis’ and have been told to hold it back till production actually begins.
It’s otherwise very unusual for a synopsis to appear anywhere before it’s officially briefed by the studio.
Well, here is that synopsis as rumored by Daniel. The emboldened parts are where we see evidence of potential changes from the original film’s plot.
“Centuries after his first death on a Scottish battlefield, immortal warrior Connor MacLeod lives quietly in the modern world, haunted by loss and the endless cycle of violence among his kind. When the ruthless immortal Kurgan resurfaces, backed by a secret organization bent on unlocking the secret of eternal life, Connor is forced back into the Game – an ancient battle where ‘there can be only one.'”

Given the recent news that Jeremy Irons is playing the leader of The Watchers, a group who were only added to the franchise lore during the TV series, this matches. One assumes some kind of deal/agreement between The Kurgan and The Watchers? I doubt the OG Kurgan would have aligned with anyone for example.
This synopsis also indicates Connor in this version has stepped away from the battle. Perhaps trying to stay hidden and quiet, before being thrust back in. Ergo, ‘rediscover his purpose’, to fight for the prize. The synopsis also could be interpreted that Ramirez helps Connor alongside Kate in the modern world. However, I seriously doubt that is the case. I do still expect Ramirez to lose his head to Bautista’s The Kurgan back in the 1500’s.
My guess is this is legit folks. However, until it gets released by the studio, or trades start using the same synopsis, pinch of salt.
