According to a rather off-hand comment, there is a rumored Spider-Man and Marvel contract extension. The comment came from the latest episode of The DisInsider Show. Hosts Skyler Shuler and Derek Cornell shared something during their ‘rumor of the week’ segment. Now it needs to be noted that this segment of their is essentially ‘stuff we’ve heard we cannot verify’. That does not mean it’s an unfounded rumor, just one the guys are not willing to stake themselves on, yet.
You can find the latest episode of the show Here. However, it is a Patreon, so a subscription is required to listen. But don’t worry I jotted it down for you.
Cornell said that Marvel Studios “extended the [Spider-Man] deal” with Sony due to the Web-Slinger playing “a pivotal role” in the future of the MCU.
That kinda sounds like Cornell is saying Sony and Disney already have a bigger deal in place. This would fly in the face of what I thought I could see happening, so I am genuinely hopeful this is true. The DisInsider guys have a good track record and since I like Spider-Man in the MCU, as said, I’m hopeful.

I was definitely worried that the Sony influx into Spider-Man 3 was setting up Tom Holland leaving the MCU. It just seems like the perfect opportunity for Sony to go out on their own, whilst leaving a lasting connection between their Universe and the MCU. However money talks, maybe right now Sony feels like the deal is working? Until we see what actually takes place in Spider-Man 3 we are all just guessing.
I am worried about Spider-Man 3 and Sony in general, but I also trust Feige and Marvel to do the best they can. What the result is of all this remains to be seen? However, I would not expect to hear anything official about a contract extension until after Spider-Man 3 has been released.
What do you think, is this rumored Spider-Man and Marvel contract extension too good to be true? Do you think Sony and Disney have negotiated a new deal behind the scenes.
