Rumored Spider-Woman Film Eyeing Alicia Vikander And This High-Profile TV Director

It’s always interesting to see the rumors for a movie snowball. It’s even more interesting when the rumors go deeper and deeper — going so far as to attach specific filmmakers. Well, it looks like we’ve reached that point with a rumored Spider-Woman movie. If you’ve been following LRM Online, you know I’ve already devoted a good amount of ink to this project — mostly in a speculative capacity — but now it feels like it’s becoming just a little more real if we’re to believe this latest rumors involving Alicia Vikander and a certain TV director.

Coming from The Illuminerdi, it’s being reported that Sony is eyeing two-time Primetime Emmy Award-winning Michelle MacLaren to helm the Marvel picture. MacLaren hasn’t directed a feature of her own yet, but she has extensive experience in the realm of TV. This includes her executive producer roles in shows like The X-Files, Breaking Bad, and The Deuce.

Additionally, MacLaren has experience directing shows like Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul, and The Morning Show. Perhaps most notably is that she’s currently attached to the Chris Pratt-starring film Cowboy Ninja Viking. That being said, it’s been a solid two years since that film was announced, so who knows what the status is.

But that ain’t all. The outlet also states that Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander is at the top of Sony’s list to star in the flick. Clearly, Vikander has franchise experience, which is a plus, and we know she can act circles around most people — also a plus. But, of course, this is not only a rumor, but if it’s true, it’s still just a “wish list.” We have no idea if Vikander is interested or even available to shoot a movie in the coming year or so.

Regardless, I have to say, these are solid choices all around. I’m not the biggest Sony fan here, but MacLaren seems like a solid TV vet to bring into the fold, and you could do much worse than Vikander. That being said, I know there are a ton of fans pushing for Daisy Ridley to play the female webslinger.
